  • About

I graduated from University College, London, with a degree in geology, which involves mastering biology, physics and chemistry (amongst other things) to breathe life into the earth’s rich history.

After three decades in financial services in Europe and New Zealand (long story), I struck out to follow my lifelong passion for the written word, offering copy-editing, proofreading and writing services on a freelance basis. With my background I’ve acquired a deep respect for the power of the English language, and a meticulous approach to using it so that I can make your words work for you.

Outside work I’m a prolific reader. Science fiction and fantasy are favoured genres, although that doesn’t stop me picking up any book that’s been left within reach (murder-mystery, historical naval, modern thriller; you name it, I’ve read it!). I’m also keen on general non-fiction works, printed and online, with specialist interests in lifestyle, financial services, environmental sciences, sport, and politics.

As well as reading extensively, I’ve created content for websites, in-house journals, customer newsletters, online blogs, and PowerPoint presentations throughout my working life. On a more technical level I’ve drafted and redrafted countless insurance policy wordings and clauses, business sales proposals, RFPs, product reviews and similar documents. I understand why having the right words in the right places is so important.

While I acknowledge I’m almost certainly considered to be a senior member of the grammar police, I don’t consider this to be a negative thing! I am completely on your side in my mission to correct errors, improve consistency and provide high-quality work.
